Land Preparation — AWL Kenya
FC 600 Interrow Cultivator
The CANSA FC 600 Interrow Cultivator is a precision mechanical weed control implement designed to cultivate between established crop rows, disrupting weeds and aerating the soil without disturbing the crop. An effective complement to integrated weed management programmes, the FC 600 reduces herbicide dependency and can significantly lower input costs on maize, bean, sorghum, and sunflower crops in Kenya. The FC 600 features gang-mounted tines with adjustable spacing to match the target row geometry. Depth control wheels ensure consistent, shallow cultivation that disrupts weed seedlings without damaging established crop root systems. Working in established rows at 4–7 km/h, the FC 600 covers ground efficiently during the critical post-emergence weed control window.AWL is the authorised dealer for CANSA implements in Kenya, with full after-sales support and genuine spare parts from our Nakuru and Eldoret branches.

What sets it apart
Built to get more done per pass
Precision Seed Placement
CANSA metering systems deliver seed at exact spacing and depth — maximising germination rates and crop establishment uniformity.
Min-Till Compatible
Designed for minimum tillage systems — CANSA drills operate effectively in loose or partially worked seedbeds to reduce soil disturbance.
Adjustable Configuration
Row spacing, seed rates, and depth settings are easily adjusted to suit different crops and soil types without specialist tools.
Yield-Boosting Accuracy
Consistent seed placement improves crop stand uniformity, reducing input wastage and improving yield potential per hectare.
Low Maintenance Design
Simplified metering mechanism and sealed bearings reduce service frequency and keep seeding operations running on schedule.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The FC 600 is used post-emergence, typically when the crop is at 3–5 leaf stage and weeds are small seedlings (up to 4-leaf). This is the most effective timing for mechanical weed control.
Yes. The FC 600 tine spacing is fully adjustable to match standard 75 cm maize rows common in Kenya. Adjustment takes approximately 20–30 minutes in the field.
When operated at the correct depth (5–10 cm) and speed (4–7 km/h), the FC 600 cultivates only the inter-row zone without disturbing established crop roots. Tractor guidance is important for accuracy.
The FC 600 is compatible with minimum-till systems where rows are established. It is not suitable for full no-till with high surface residue as tines may clog. Contact AWL for specific system advice.
Key wear items include cultivator tine points, which should be checked and replaced when wear reduces effectiveness. AWL stocks FC 600 spare parts in Nairobi.
