Land Preparation — AWL Kenya
Soilmaster 7 Tine Chisel Plough
The Soilmaster 7 Tine Chisel Plough is the mid-range model in the Soilmaster chisel plough series, combining the deep penetration capability of the 5-tine with broader field coverage suitable for medium to large-scale arable operations. Seven rigid tines on a 2.1 m frame work to depths of 30–45 cm, shattering compacted hardpan layers and improving soil structure for better crop establishment.Requiring 90–120 HP, the 7-tine chisel plough is matched to the larger tractors operating on commercial cereal, maize, and sugarcane farms in Kenya. The wider working width reduces the number of field passes needed per hectare compared to the 5-tine model, improving seasonal efficiency during the critical pre-planting window.AWL stocks Soilmaster chisel ploughs and spare tine points in Kenya, with after-sales support from our Nakuru and Eldoret branches.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The Soilmaster 7 tine chisel plough requires 90–120 HP. Operating with less power will result in insufficient penetration depth, especially in dry, hard conditions.
The 7 tine model covers approximately 2,100 mm (2.1 m) versus 1,500 mm (1.5 m) for the 5 tine — a 40% increase in width per pass.
Chisel ploughing in black cotton soil (vertisol) is most effective when the soil is dry. Working wet black cotton can cause cloddy conditions and reduce effectiveness. Best results are from dry-season ripping.
Typically one deep chisel plough pass is sufficient as a primary operation per season or every 2–3 years for hardpan management, followed by secondary tillage with disc harrows or power harrow.
Yes. AWL can commission new implements and provide operator guidance on depth settings, working speeds, and maintenance schedules for the 7 tine chisel plough.
